Here are some throwbacks to my earliest cake smash sessions back in Okinawa, Japan. My Anchorage cake smash sessions almost all take place in the studio. My sets are more elaborate, and instead of worrying about the cake melting before baby can smash it, I worry about the fire heating up the studio enough to keep baby happy! I like to think I have come a long way since, but my early work still makes me smile.
“Mom, Look! We got the orange skies you wanted!” This sweet boy, makes his sister laugh out loud on command. He loves puppies. He was stoked about the idea of a ‘baby hot tub’… And he was SO excited that his mama got the sunset she’d been hoping for for his baby sister’s cake smash & bubble bath session. To say he’s won my heart in the year that I’ve known him is putting it mildly. I met this family when I photographed Jessica’s baby shower, just weeks before Jenna came to make their family complete. One of our mutual friends, Natasha, had hired me to photograph the shower as her “gift” to Jess.
After she got her photos back, Jessica contacted me and asked if I would be interested in doing their fresh 48 and newborn session. I’d just recently gotten into newborn photography and loved it. I’d photographed half a dozen babies for friends over the last few months, as I put into practice everything I had learned from online workshops. I was excited to finally feel comfortable taking on newborn clients! When I walked into that hospital, and saw Jenna in her little hat (I’ll attach the picture to the bottom of the blog) I was blown away. She was already so pretty, and I couldn’t believe I was getting paid to sniff and snuggle and photograph her. Since that time, Jessica and I have become good friends, and I’ve been lucky enough to take pictures of this gorgeous little human every three months as she’s grown up as part of our milestone package. I think we started talking about this cake smash & bubble bath session before she was even sitting up. Natasha made a gorgeous ribbon garland for the shower and it was the theme of the cake smash session.
We started with a family session, because when they are all this cute- you just have to!
Jessica was a little worried when Jenna didn’t love the smash cake, but the bubble bath more than made up for it. This little water baby started giggling the moment we put her in the tub- and never stopped!
The day Jayden met his sweet little sister a year ago:
I can’t believe how much they’ve both grown since then! It won’t be as much fun to watch them growing up from afar, but, gosh what a blessing it’s been to have this year with them!
