Anna and Bradley are… well… just perfect. Their Spokane engagement session was everything I’d imagined the perfect fall engagement session would be. They popped bubbly, danced in the leaves, and sipped champagne while writing each other love letters. Their entire session was full of teasing and laughter and stolen kisses when they didn’t think I was watching. I never wanted the night to end.
I had been in Spokane for about three days when I first met Anna. I was overwhelmed in Sephora- as is my typical state when I’m surrounded by lots of colors and beautiful packaging. I want to buy everything but also have no idea how to use any of it. Luckily for me, sweet bubbly Anna noticed me aimlessly picking up palettes and tubes and came over to help. As we got to chatting, I made her show me how she created such a natural looking eye for herself. Watching her expertly recreate the same look on my face, it came up that Dane and I were going to be doing a little filming here in Spokane and I might need some help with my makeup.
As a small business owner, I’ve found that I’m naturally drawn to doing business with other small businesses. We’ve gone out of our way (as in driving from Washington to Idaho) just to buy paint from our favorite paint guy. We bought all of our flooring from a family run business and now we feel like they’re our friends. In addition to her job at Sephora, Anna has a small makeup artistry business (plus I just really liked her) so it just made sense to ask if she’d be open to coming over the following week to do my makeup every day. She agreed.
We spent the next week talking every morning–while she made me feel beautiful– about this sweet boyfriend of hers that she was sure she was going to marry. These high-school-friends-turned-lovers have the sweetest story, and by the end of the week, I felt like I knew him. We also understood how actresses and tv personalities must get really attached to their makeup artists. The first morning that she wasn’t there to pamper me while I drank my coffee, I found that I missed that part of my morning tremendously. Putting on your own mascara is lame.
About two weeks later I got a text message: “WE’RE ENGAGED!!!!” Well that didn’t take long, I thought! She sent me the cutest darn picture, and even though it was taken from a distance I immediately zeroed in on the gorgeous rock that now adorned her left hand. (I can’t help it- I’m not just a sucker for colors and packaging- I love anything with a good sparkle to it!)
I was thrilled when she asked me if I’d be able to do their engagement session “soon“. The leaves here have been taking my breath away since they started to change and I had been worried I might not get back to work soon enough to capture them. But luckily even with all of the house renovations that have taken up just about every minute since we arrived in Spokane- we made time to squeeze them in. We met at the beautiful Finch Arboretum for the most beautiful Spokane engagement session I could have imagined. It was the perfect first shoot in our new home town!
So so grateful that of all of the people that could have offered me help in Sephora- I got lucky enough to get Anna.
